Shark Fin Inn Restaurants
Offering popular yum cha, an a la carte menu and banquet options, Shark Fin Inn in Melbourne’s CBD is a renowned restaurant for Chinese cuisine. Indulge in Peking Duck or Shark Fin soup to fully embrace the experience. It is open for lunch and dinner, but note it is closed between 3pm and 5.30 each day.
Having being built up as some of mecca of Yum Cha in Melbourne, this was truly a terrible start to our much anticipated week of dining in Melbourne. While the food was passable (I've had better, I've had worse) and the servers were pleasant enough, the floor managers or whatever they call themselves made a special effort to make us feel rushed, unwelcome and in the way. I think that it would be unfair to tar the whole Melbourne or even Chinatown food scene with this disgraceful establishment, so the best I can do is to assume that they represent the backside of Melbourne's hospitality industry. The sad part was that the locals rationalised this as "just how it is" as the reality is that really couldn't care less what you think, and they will do just fine with one less customer. This'll is only my opinion and people can do what they want, but I for one would like to thank the managers and Shark Fin Inn for ruining my first day of a week long holiday in Melbourne
Came here with work colleagues today for lunch and I can say I had a fair dining experience. The food upstairs didn't come out as frequently as I had hoped as I think they weren't particularly busy so you had to order your usual favourite dishes to have on the side. There was a good selection of dumplings when the trolley did come around. The service was cordial. I would come around here again for a team lunch.
Had yum Cha for lunch here. They have a variety of yum Cha dim sums and are tasty. It was a full house during lunch as there were office workers and families - it was a bit of a struggle to navigate your way through to your table as there is little room to move around. Staff was abrupt with attending to our orders. Otherwise, delicious dishes at decent prices.
This Chinese restaurant is fine, but probably no more. There are two restaurants in Little Bourke Street with similar names, so take care to be at the right one. I am having dinner at Shark Fin Inn. It offers a range of Chinese food with banquet style and a la carte types. The banquet I shared was fine - satay skewers, chicken/corn soup, pork, beef with black bean, seafood stir fry, fried rice, lychees and ice cream. I'd prefer they put the dishes on the table for us to serve ourselves, rather than serve them to us one dish as a time as they did - that was frustrating and took too long. It also wasted food that some were served but didn't want. Service was okay overall.
