I never thought in the history of Australian medicine, that I would be denied an operation, ON THE VERY DAY.
SCGH booked me in for 7am admission. I have to get out of bed at 5am, shower with pre op wash then I get the car to the train station and catch a train and bus to hospital.
I arrived at admission at 6:50am.
I went to the short stay unit and checked in.
I waited until 8:30am. People who arrive after me were being sent through for their procedures, AFTER ...read more
I'm sure SCGH has wonderful staff but this is not our experience during my husband's stay in the hospital. They have a big communication problems in this hospital. Some staff including one resident doctor are really rude. We have recently upgraded our private insurance so we're not able to use it. But we're tax payers and we expect to be treated with respect in a public hospital like SCGH. I believe a patient should not be forced to go home when he does not feel well or confident to go home. Unfortunately, the rude doctor said he calls the shots in this matter. If they could give us good reasons why he should be sent home after 2 days of a major surgery then we might understand but there's no ecplat all. He made us feel like garbage. Very, very disappointing. That doctor has no compassion and empathy.
Extremely disappointed - some staff were great, certain ones were constantly rude, bossy and you were never told about medications etc. Always woken up from 10pm to 6am nightly to be poked and prodded, given tablets you were not told what they were. Food was very good. I was never told once about driving afterwards and only found out via my gp. Then I had to spend weeks chasing a review appointment with the surgeon and after many phone calls, all of which were never returned, turned into such a stressful situation which I am still dealing with. I would never go back to that hospital again.
Very disappointing night. Came in via Ambulance my 89yr mother suffering very high BP and just had a anurisim treated earlier in morning. Was left for hours in emergency waiting room with no mention of overcrowding and no bed available until I went and asked how much longer we needed to wait. Surely the Ambulance service should have been notified of the Hospitals busy status and diverted to other ones not under so much pressure.. I have the utmost respect for all medical staff and understand the extreme pressure they can be under. Surely someone dropped the ball by not stopping Ambulances dropping off patients who could not be seen or treated due to over crowding. We left after being told in a unsympathetic manner there was no room at the Inn..
I feel for all other patients in same situation as us with no explanation or alternative measures in place. Come on we are human beings not cattle. My ...read more
