Soffritto is not like any other Italian restaurant around. Although the low light atmosphere across the intimately spaced dining area might not seem too spectacular, its food and service really makes up for pretty much the rest of the dining experience.
What makes this place special is their regular “mini cooking class” where they would set up a space in the corner, show you how they make their pasta from scratch (including the ingredients), and give you the chance to “shape” your own pasta too. Those pasta can then be cooked and enjoyed as one of the meals.
We tried out their duck ravioli and it was very awesome. We also ordered some of their fish and quail dishes and whilst the mash was very soft, the dishes were a bit on the salty end of the spectrum.
The staffs are also friendly and quite attentive. This place definitely deserves a revisit.
Great little Italian restaurant- with amazing staff!
It has a long history in Newtown, and once you visit the restaurant, you will realise just why everyone loves it. It definitely is a hidden treasure.
Food was delicious.
The antipasti platter was a good size, and great for nibbling whilst chatting to friends.
The hand-made duck ravioli tantalised my food buds - i was in heaven when eating them.
I had the quail as the main - which wasn't my cup of tea personally.
But great staff, great ambience - and the food is overall worth it.
What can i say, admittedly tucked behind what may look like a typical old fashioned classy italian restaurant was delightfully well crafted ambiance of food and welcoming staff. First the food was delicious. Perfectly cooked crispy skin fish fillet and its tender meat keeping the juice and texture to be appreciated with its spice and herbs. As for environment, best kept for intimacy or a small group of friends. P.S. They also have cooking classes if interested!
i would've never expected a good authentic italian in newtown, but Soffrito has definitely proved me wrong. Absolutely loved the whole experience - starting from the funny but qwirky decor (the 3D Lemons) and their cold meat platter and the deep fried olives (seriously), then the big fat steak which was probaly one of the best steaks I've had in a long time. The duck ravioli was good but it was a little too fatty and rich for my liking. But the fact that we got to make fresh ravioli was just amaze.
This treasure has been around for a number of years and favourite in town. It's a small and cosy venue which gives you an intimate feeling plus the staff are incredible friendly and welcoming. Their handmade pasta dishes are incredibly tasty - the duck ravioli is definitely something to try.
