Standown Park
Standown Park is your safe home away from home on the Cooloola Coast close to Tin Can Bay, where you can relax around the open fire and enjoy happy hour with fellow travellers.Situated just off the Tin Can Bay Road, half way between Gympie and Tin Can Bay, Standown Park is the ideal place to stay if you want to pull up a stump for a while or trip around to visit the beautiful attractions in the area.
With 18 acres of flat grass land we pride ourselves on offering you an affordable, restful stay with clean ammenities which include disable facilities, a laundry and a dump point. Each powered site is connected to beautiful clean drinking water, and the large camp kitchen with the open fire place is ideal for the daily happy hours.
Pets are welcome on a lead around the camp, though they can play on the acres of grass or swim in the dam.
With the forestry beside the Park there are many walking tracks to take or take a short drive to the three lakes with sandy shores.
Standown Park was originally established as a retreat for War Veterans, hence the name, as stand down in military terms means to stop, rest, have break. In no time ithe Park became a little too crowded for our one toilet and shower so the decision was made to build an amenities block and openthr Park to the grey nomads. Children are welcome although we do not have facilities for them ie: swings, swimming pools, tennis courts etc. ...read more

Great place to stay for a very relaxing break, friendly owners & fellow campers. Cannot understand the negative report from kombu. not true. Would recommend this place to anybody. Congrats to Rod & Pam Elkington to what they have done for Vietnam Vets.Love happy hour & fire, all amenities fine, plenty of room to spread out your awning , water pressure & electricity fine.
We have spend 2 x holidays at Standown Park and are getting ready for our 3rd visit there....it is perfect for anyone who does not want all the trimmings (like rec halls, swimming pools, kiosks etc) - is a place to just unwind, relax, and make your own fun, and meet people from all over the country - make new acquaintances and new friends...and, if you can't get TV reception - its not a big issue - there is always the Happy Hour and camp fire late every afternoon, where it is much more enjoyable to sit and chat to folks who have similar interests to us...amenities are very clean, grounds are very well maintained and the hosts are exceptionally helpful and pleasant....and this place is so close to the touristy spots like Rainbow Beach, Maryborough and Tin Can Bay without all the tourists and hype.....as retirees/nomads - ...suits us perfectly..
We have just spent a week here, it is a quiet peaceful park with kangaroos to look at morning and night. We set up in a powered site and also had our mat out on the grass with no problems. Our two dogs loved it. We have had a great time looking round the local area and knowing that all of our stuff was safe.
