Didn't spend much time upstairs but instead went through the secret literary doorway down to Fall from Grace, the downstairs bar, for an early evening drink. Should have expected it to be full of suits and the educated after-work crowd but after the initial shock at the homogenous crowd it was quite nice, found a quiet spot and enjoyed a nice glass of wine. Fun little dicovery, maybe try it earlier in the week for a bit more space.
Back again, this time to enjoy a small bite with a friend before we headed to a birthday event. Same feeling as i got last time, the giraffe ends up being the star of the night as it is so distracting given the size of it you just cant stop staring at it. We order the platter which comes with salami, cheese, pate and picked veggies. Was a great starter because between 2 people it was quite a large serving and it almost felt like a full meal towards the end of it. We were there early so it was empty for about 40minutes before the restaurant started to fill up. It started to get noisier and noiser as customers were entering but that was ok because we were only there for a bite to kick start our evening. Again great service, food is reasonable. Wouldnt say the best but State of Grace is a place i wouldnt mind coming back to every now and then.
The service could have been better and the toilets were hard to find let alone come back from. There is a bar area and a restaurant area which looks warm and welcoming. The dcor is quirky but nice so would be perfect for dinner, first dates and catchups. I ordered a sparkling but experience an NQR/not the most friendly attitude from the waiter. Havent been here for food but heard its great will try next time.
Situated within a hop of the Rialto towers, State of Grace gives you a somewhat sophisticated vibe when youre inside the restaurant. Decorated with a giraffe as the main feature, if you didnt notice it like did upon entering the restaurant, it will startle you. Why its there? I have no idea but I do know that it would be a terrific conversation starter for first timers as you would try to determine whether it was a real animal or not. Either way it could be a distraction towards your rating of the food served. Chose the ever so safe choice of the eye fillet steak and finished that up with the dark chocolate mousse. Needless to say, State of Grace delivered with the quality but it seems like many places do nowadays. Good place to have a quiet meal with your partner or to debate about the giraffe. Overall different and interesting atmosphere and meals were average. Would recommend for first time visit but would be in no rush to return.
