Taj Tandoor
Authentic Curries and Charcoal Tandoori FoodWe've been serving authentic cooked curries and Tandoori food in Adelaide's CBD since 1985. Traditional curries and a banquet menu on offer, Taj Tandoor is Adelaide's number 1 indian restaurant.
With its 20-year history, Taj Tandoor is as busy as it is elegant and airy. It has high ceilings, a marble bar counter, dark wooden tables with turned legs surrounded by heavy, old-fashioned dining chairs. The decor is pure eclectica, a statue of the Taj Mahal and illuminated glass sculptures, contemporary art and exotic artificial flowers. Indian fusion music plays softly and on Thursday nights there is live jazz. The waiting staff is plentiful but has to assume a briskly polite formality as the trendies flood ...read more

overall disgusted with poor service and awful food. Food was uncooked and raw. On questioning with staff they were unhelpful. This place was out of sift drinks and daal(most common thing on Indian restaurant) by 8 pm after starting business at 6 pm.Plates were quarter plates for dinner and cutlery was dirty. It was a disaster.
I have never experienced such a badly run restaurant.
We walked into the restaurant after booking a table for 12 only to be directed to a table for 2. After telling them we booked for 12 at least 3 times we were finally directed to our table, which had chairs against the wall so half of us could not even get out without moving the entire group out.
Also, cutlery was scattered on the table with some seats not even having ANY. We ordered some drinks while waiting for our friends which seemed all ...read more
WORST DINING EXPERIENCE YET...
Overall we were disgusted with the poor service - waiting over 30 minutes just for a drink to be brought to our table, the way the manager yelled at her staff ordering them around even while they were taking orders, how not everything we ordered was bought to the table - despite asking three times for the missing items, and having to eat in darkness (in fact when another table asked for the lights to be switched on they were told if they did not like it to leave). However we feel the real icing on the cake was the sataff yelling at us as we tried to pay our bill - trying to force us to pay for a bottle of wine we never consumed, stating that it was on her computer so someone had to pay for it. Have not had a worse dining experience yet utterly dissatisfied.
I must say, I don't really see what the fuss is all about here - it's great food and excellent service but nothing that you couldn't get from a local indian take away joint. I suppose people are paying for the location. Having said that, if you're in town and looking for an indian meal, I'd definately recommend this place - good food, good tastes, quick service... but if you're at home, it's not really worth th trip in!
