If you want to go somewhere where you feel embraced in a family atmosphere by the staff - this is it. Not your usual restaurant - and that is an understatement. It sells all sorts of tiles during the day - and on weekend evenings transforms to a beautiful bar in an old court house - with candles, paintings and flowers everywhere. A woman from El Salvador does the cooking, with shared plates ranging from meatballs in tomato or chicken in orange and olives - whatever takes her fancy - it changes every night. Music varies between the Latin guitar or the Russian pianist.. Have a fantasic night out here - but patience is a virtue as it can get busy and the waiting staff can be a bit random! My only complaint would be the wine list which goes from a $20 Portugese rose to $90 bottles of red with nothing in-between - but despite this you will be guaranteed a great night.
It shouldn't work, but it does. A tile and interior design shop during the day, a bar at night; a very limited selection of homemade dishes cooked up daily at the whim of a gorgeous, gregarious El Salvadorian cook; breakfast served sometimes, then, whoops, changed our minds, we won't do that anymore; live music of constantly changing variety in the evenings. I can never keep up with what they're doing now, but I love being there whatever they do. The atmosphere in this evocative old building - previously a garden centre, and before that, a public building of some sort, I believe - is unlike anywhere else. The staff are run off their feet but so genuine and embracing you want to hug them (Many do.) The food can be divine, or just OK, but that's OK too.) Could do with a better wine list, but what the hey - this place is a one of a kind, and I'll drink anything here.
