Ah the local, my local. Great little boozer, particularly for a good sports event such as the UFC. The atmosphere is pretty good and it gives me something to do on those cold, wet, miserable Port Melbourne afternoons, of which there are plenty. It may be called the local but there is nothing local about the menu. When you bite into the crisp, succulent, tender Mexican Parmagana your tastebuds could be forgiven for thinking they were dining next to the ancient ruins of Chichén Itzá. Ah best.
The old Elephant and Wheelbarrow has been reborn into the Local. Whilst providing a similar atmosphere, the Local has managed to shed the backpacker-esque vibe and taken on a classic pub feel. Live music on some nights and a regular poker game is backed up with a good pub menu and a wide range of beers. Sports games play on plasma screens and upstairs are pool tables and a lounge area. Excellent in summer with views off the balconies to the ocean.
