Thomas Dux Grocer

unfortunately woolworths have decided to close Thomas dux at the glen shopping centre shortly after christmas about 30th jan unexpectedly. they have decided not to renew the lease and don't feel the demographics of glen Waverley is suitable for a Thomas dux store, apparently glen waverley can support a very expensive david jones but not a comparatively priced supermarket like thomas dux??? as someone who shops there regularly twice a week there are always shoppers in store. they have not offered any of the staff other employment options, the nearest thomas dux is armadale, so they have lost my business and I will travel to hartwell to shop at leo's where I can get all the products I enjoy at Thomas dux. they have such great quality food at reasonable prices and staff are super friendly and helpful. very frustrating and disapointing

again running the promotion in june now -spend $50 and receive 5% off next shop or spend $100 receive 10% off next shop which is great! great range of "safe" meats such as organic, nitrate free bacon, etc. they are making chestnut and pumpkin soup fresh daily for lunches. A2 cream now available.lovely. homemade "Careme 'no preservatives pastry also available which is really lovely (but both sweet/savoury varieties are same price $11, whereas at Leo's and local IGA the savoury varieties $9 and sweet varieties $11 which is disappointing). the Lamadre apple pies are good if you serve them with rhubarb as too much sugar in them so too sweet but too expensive $16 if not on special. Maggie Baer items such as stocks and ice creams are good, especially when on special! still great place for gourmet, organic, ethical, local quality produce that's difficult to find elsewhere

wow they are now offering every time you spend $50 on groceries your next visit you receive not 5% but 10% off! thank you! there are not a lot of variety of canned items available such as coconut milk (several varieties of coconut cream and only 1 of coconut milk and not in a non PCB lined safe aliminium can and same with canned pulses/legumes (have a few varieties in PCB lined cans, more in cans containing PCB linings, none at all in legumes such as brown lentels which can be frustrating when you don't have time to soak the dried pulses/legumes. the passionfruits I got here last week were all dry and I had to throw them straight out but the week before they were all plump and juicy. great healthier hot cross buns available already (spelt varieties, no additives/preservatives) but can be pricey.gluten free beer now being stocked was quite good and reasonable priced too.

there is always a staff member available to help you whenever you need it, the store is compact so you can usually see what you need easily and what's available. The have run some excellent reward programs in past where you collect stickers when you spend $ amounts at the register which you save up to exchange for top quality knifes and saucepans or put towards them and pay part if you had not collected enough at end of promotion period. They have not had one of these promotions for a long time now, so another one would be good, especially discounts off your next bill when you spend over a certain amount in one visit. they have the nicest chocolate cake I have ever tasted (its not too sickly sweet like most and stays super moist for weeks without heaps of preservative in it) "Emmalines" chocolate cake $7.50 for 500g loaf. the blueberry/raspberry/chocolate muffins "sweet by nature" are not a favourite though as dry and overly sweet. the say they get fruit and ...read more

shop here at least twice a week for brilliant, gourmet healthy produce. love the coconut ice cream made from coconut milk - including chocolate, mango, berry flavours as well as cherry ripe slice, bengal spice tea (the nicest herbal tea I have found), organic meats, woodfired pizza bases, coconut sugar, etc. they will attempt to get a product in for you if they can. they have regular, generous specials making things quite affordable. staff always friendly, helpful and attentative
