Wonderful atmosphere. Hadn't been back to the Vic since being ignored by the previous owners. What a delightful change! The new skylights in the bistro really lighten up the place. The same, friendly wait staff and the yummy meal really made my day. Took a stroll out through the public bar, and what a change! No TAB any more, there's now a pool table there and the place was buzzing. This is my new Local. Love it!
still a bit confused....reading your review again, which is great that you found our local pub to be so good...but "pumping" on a Monday night ..seriously? having lived in woodend for over 20 years, nothing is "pumping" on a Monday night..yes, the vic can be busy in the restaurant from time to time early in the week...also, if you were ignored on your previous visit but you have the same friendly staff? as we said, just a little confusing...
Kdax, If I may refer you to your previous post: I have eaten many times at the Vic and always found the food, service and ambiance to be of a high standard, varied menu and good daily specials...i think the comment of pubs serving good cheap food is ignorant...if you owned a small business you'd know the excessive costs of running one particularly in the hospitality industry...pricing comes back to wages/purchases/on costs...i think if people dont like some place they've eaten at then dont bag it just dont go back.
I'm slightly perplexed why now you now seem hellbent on bagging our local, I guess I won't be enjoying a game of pool with you any time soon :(
not bagging our local at all..and not "hell-bent" (your words on doing so....but just keep your comments in perspective..."pumping" on a Monday night...seriously! wanting all businesses to be successful...
went here for lunch today after quite a few months...so very disappointing!!!! was told the pub has recently changes hands...last time we were here the food, service, ambience was terrific...this time, what an appalling experience...food was awful and the service was non-existent! not the warm welcome we received from previous management and staff...fish & chips was greasy, salad was limp with a brown dressing on it that was "something"? wait staff unfriendly and looks like new management don't know what they are doing at all...have always had a great experience at the vic in the past few years but won't be back...
seriously, how can the experience be so different from ours within one day? possible it could be ..old management never ignored anyone.if this happened to you they obviously weren't there on that particular occasion..have been going there for years and always had a great experience..god luck to the new management..they will need it...
Again, went back to our favourite place to eat locally yesterday on New Year's Day....really busy...great service and the food was terrific..keep up the good work "Vic Pub"...always have a range of good specials on and the staff can't be faulted! friendly and efficient...nice people.
We live in Woodend and regulary eat at The Vic...always have a good meal and staff are great..some of the best in town in fact!! Believe me, there are eating venues in Woodend which fall well short of the Vic with their food and their service (the other pub in fact)...but I won't name them out of courtesy! Ate at the Vic last weekend and it was all good. Highly recommend it and we've found it's best to book on weekends as they do get very busy
