Sichuan Airlines was founded on 29 August, 2002, and formerly known as Sichuan Airlines, Sichuan Airlines Group, holding a 40% share is the largest shareholder.
Other shareholders are China Southern Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, Shandong Airlines, Chengdu Gingko Golden Court venture capital co., Ltd. Sichuan Airlines, now known as Sichuan Airlines Group, the company was first established on 19 September, 1986, sailing operations on 14 July, 1988.
Sichuan Airlines commenced mainly operating scheduled domestic flights from Chengdu Airport and Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport. The airline launched its first long-haul overseas route in June 2012 with flights from its Chengdu hub to Vancouver, Canada (via Shenyang). Its second long-haul flight, from Chengdu to Melbourne, Australia (non-stop), was launched in February 2013 with three weekly services.
