It all started when i decided I wished I had a tail...
I am one of those artists who requires noisy trains and buses and lots of birds squawking and some fantastic music playing really loudly in order to create. Oh good grief I work in chaos! I paint with distractions full on!
Since I have a masters degree in Fine Art and a half a bachelor?s degree in Astrophysics, I find that I experiment with dozens of ways to say what I want to say, and to describe my art style would best be summed up as ?unrestrained pop-surreal? I think. Yeah, that sounds great! I paint totally on instinct, usually with no master plan, so I have found that the more I distract my conscious mind, the better and the closer the deadline the better.
Every year from July to October, I do 100 drawings in 100 days, all by request and all in pen and ink. After I have completed them all, I mat and back them, have a big show and silent auction (it's a pop-up at a different location each year!) at a lovely cafe for 100 minutes and the starting bid is... you guessed it, $100! When this is all over, I then take my scanned images and proceed to digitally colour them one-by-one and create beautiful prints and other lovely goodies that you are now able to buy from my stall at the Eumundi Markets, Caloundra Street Fair, Southbank Young Designer Markets and my studio in Yandina or online at deshan.etsy.com!
I have done this for 4 years now, so in theory I have around 400 drawings, and I'm still playing catch-up on the colouring... always adding new ones, so keep checking back!
Oh, and don't be shy about sending me requests... that's how I roll baby!
My studio always has at least two dozen projects in progress, in varying states of "done-ness". I normally have to high-step (and even leap) over piles of creations to get to the easel? It?s my daily accidental work out ^_^
