A SHORT HISTORY OF OUR SUB-SECTION
Newcastle Sub-Section of the Naval Association of Australia (formally known as the Ex-Navalmens Association) was granted it's charter on the 7th November 1925, thus making it the "First in the State"
Newcastle began with only a handfull of members, regularly meeting at several venues over the years, changing dates and times to suit
it's members, even at one stage meeting in a member's "back shed". Most of it's history being lost in the sands of time and the memory
of yesterday.
In 1947 the now "Ex-Navalmens Association of Australia" approved the formation of Sub-Sections in all areas of New South Wales, so
Newcastle, from it's humble beginnings and it's many changes, through the efforts and dedication of many fine "Ex-Navalmen and
Women", Newcastle Sub-Section, today boasts of over 110 male and female members.
Since it's beginnings it has had several members who have been granted the Diploma of Merit, and Life Membership has been granted
to four.
It cover's the areas of Newcastle, the Upper Hunter, Lake Macquarie, Maitland and Port Stephens.
In 1960 the Association's name was changed to the "Naval Association of Australia",still with it's motto
"Each For All and All For Each".
The Naval Association has grown to the largest organisation specifically representing serving and former members of the Navy, Naval
Reserve, and other Commonwealth Navies, with around 70 Sub-Sections throughout Australia. Almost 30 of these being located in New
South Wales.
We meet on the first Sunday of each month at the Gallipoli Legion Club, Beaumont St., Hamilton at 10:00Am
