Forest Gate is currently listed on the local heritage register. The historic farm cottage was built of stuccoed stone and daub about 125 years ago and was renovated in the original style of the late 1800s during the 1970s. Subsequently, it was crafted into two entirely separate and private living entities.
Our private guest wing WALNUT is self contained, apartment style accommodation, strictly for couples. WALNUT comprises a sky-lit master bedroom with queen bed & goosedown quilt, a lounge/dining room with TV, DVD & film library, a fully equipped kitchen, and private bathroom with a little rainwater spa bath. The apartment is serviced by reverse-cycle air-conditioning and a log combustion fire keeps Walnut guests warm through winter. There is off street parking as well.
As well as having their own private breakfast/BBQ garden, guest couples are invited to roam the rear gardens Xeriscape garden (no water). The gardens are the home to a wide variety of native birds, and remain beautiful from the opening rains in Autumn through to early Summer.
Forest Gate Farm itself is a small cattle property nestled alongside the beautiful Kuitpo Forest and is an ideal central location for short trips to Hahndorf, McLaren Vale, Victor Harbour and Strathalbyn. Guests may be interested in making use of the many walking trails in the area, including Mt Magnificent to capture beautiful views and observe wildlife; or may be looking for accommodation whilst attending receptions at one of the local wineries (K1 Winery is 2 min down the road, and other reception venues are also nearby); or may simply be looking to get away from city life for the weekend. Whichever you require, we can offer it at Forest Gate.
