Mr. ANDREW MCPHERSON holds a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology, and a First Class Honours degree in Psychological Science from the Australian College of Applied Psychology, where he was awarded the medal for Outstanding Academic Achievement. Whilst undertaking his psychology degrees he worked as a psychiatric nurse in the private health sector. He is currently working part-time at a psychiatric hospital in the Drug and Alcohol inpatient and outpatient setting.
Andrew has presented in national conferences and has been published in the Journal of Psychopathology and Behavioural Assessment. His research has focused on attitudes towards alcohol amongst people with an alcohol use disorder. In clinical practice, Andrew specialises in alcohol and substance abuse problems, and has worked with people experiencing anxiety, depression, and eating disorders.
Andrew is trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and also incorporates other evidence-based psychological interventions including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT). Andrew adopts a non-judgemental and supportive attitude in clinical practice, aiming to provide adaptable and effective treatment methods to a wide range of people.
