Dr Kiera Buchanan is registered as both a Clinical Psychologist and a Health Psychologist after completing the dual Doctorate of Clinical Psychology and Health Psychology at the University of Queensland. Kiera's research and areas of interest have been focused on eating behaviour, weight-management, and body image. Kiera has acquired an expertise in helping clients achieve long-term solutions to their weight- and eating-issues through application of her research and experience working in a number of private and public, multidisciplinary health settings. Kiera's approach acknowledges the important relationship among nutrition, lifestyle, and psychological factors in improving physical and mental health. As such, Kiera collaborates with a team of allied health professionals (including dietitians and exercise physiologists) to ensure clients' needs are met holistically.
In addition to her expertise in the field of eating and weight-related issues, Kiera also provides services for a wide range of issues in adults and adolescents, including depression, anxiety, adjustment difficulties, relationship issues, stress management, perfectionism, body image and/or self-esteem issues, anger-management, self-harm, drug- and alcohol-use issues, chronic pain management, difficulties with personalities, and sports and performance psychology. Kiera is also an advocate of therapy in the absence of a mental-health condition, as a means of personal growth and development.
Among others, Kiera utilises Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Schema-Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), according to the individual client and their therapeutic needs.
