The Early Dance Consort specialises in early European court dance of the Renaissance and Baroque periods (15th to 18th century). Directed by Fiona Garlick and John Barnard, the Consort has performed widely with leading early music ensembles, and has presented courses for schools, universities, colleges, music conservatoria and societies.
An appreciation of early dance is extremely helpful for students and teachers of music, dance and theatre, and for anyone with a passion for period drama, social history, or early music of the Renaissance, Baroque and Classical periods.
The Consort offers regular Evening Classes and annual Summer Courses in North Sydney, and Workshops and Masterclasses by appointment. No previous experience or partner required. The dances cover a great variety from baroque Minuets and Gavottes to Renaissance Pavanes and Galliards and evergreen Country Dances and Contredanses. They range from sedate to lively and everything in between.
Exercise both mind and body while stepping into the fascinating world of French, English and Italian court dance.
