Rocky Point Green Power Plant is a 30MW power station located in South East Queensland. Rocky Point uses bagasse (a by-product of the sugar mill process), approved wood residues, and other biomass materials to generate renewable electricity and steam to power the Rocky Point Sugar Mill and Distillery. It is one of the largest biomass projects in Australia. Additional generation capacity is exported to the Queensland Electricity Grid as green power and purchased by customers of Green Power Programs. The innovative engineering technology is known as cogeneration because it simultaneously produces steam and electricity.
Rocky Point Green Power is accredited by the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) as a green power generator. Electricity generated helps displace greenhouse gas emissions from non-renewable power generation.
All by-products generated by the plant are rejuvenated back into the environment. The ash from the boiler is used in the manufacture of mulch and fertiliser. The power station uses Tertiary Treated Effluent from the Beenleigh Treatment works. After use in the power station this is available for irrigation of cane fields. Rocky Point Green Power is pro-active in supporting cane farmers in this endeavour.

Rocky Point Green Power only uses biomass fuels that meet the stringent criteria approved by the Office of the Renewable Energy Regulator, ensuring that energy generated by the plant can be sold as green electricity and is eligible for Renewal Energy Certificates. Rocky Point Green Power upholds a corporate policy that reinforces these regulatory criteria and offers an extended commitment that no old-growth forest will be used as fuel at Rocky Point.
