Teresa Gambaro is an accomplished local business woman and a well known current and former Member of Parliament for 11 years.
Teresa has a life long association with Brisbane and currently lives in New Farm with her husband Robert. She has two young adult children Rachelle and Benjamin.
She was born in Brisbane in 1958 to Italian immigrant parents and had a modest child hood in New Farm, where her family owned and operated the local corner store. Her humble childhood instilled strong and enduring values of the importance of family and hard work.
Teresa attended New Farm's Holy Spirit School and All Hallows School in Ann Street and achieved a Bachelor of Business majoring in Marketing from QUT.
Teresa was the Federal Member for Petrie from 1996 to 2007 and in 2007 she was appointed Assistant Minister for Immigration and Citizenship.
Now representing the bustling inner city seat of Brisbane, Ms Gambaro also has portfolio responsibility in the form of the Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for International Development Assistance and the Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Citizenship and Settlement.
Both these portfolio responsibilities bring Ms Gambaro into contact with individuals with various issues from around the globe, as well as contact with local organisations that support them.
Ms Gambaro works with local groups, church based associations and the non-government sector to promote conditions of sustainable human development in which people are able to enjoy a full range of human rights, fulfil their needs free from poverty, and live in dignity.
