Adelaide Central School of Art is South Australia's leading independent, not-for-profit, tertiary provider of visual arts education. It employs eminent contemporary artists, writers and curators to deliver a studio-based teaching program that cultivates sophisticated practical skills, underpinned by intensive conceptual investigation.
The Gallery exhibits a diverse annual program featuring survey and solo exhibitions of significant recent work from South Australia?s most esteemed and celebrated emerging and established artists, as well as renowned national and international contemporary artists. It provides a learning resource for students of the School, who benefit from opportunities to engage with a professional gallery and make contact with artists, curators and writers.
The cornerstone of the program is the annual Graduate Exhibition, which presents outstanding work from each of our graduating Bachelor of Visual Art and Bachelor of Visual Art (Honours) students. The exhibition is promoted nationally and provides graduates with a significant opportunity to have their work viewed by a wide network of visual art professionals. The works in this exhibiton are presented thoughout the entire Teaching & Studio Building, as well as the Gallery.
Adelaide Central Gallery regularly partners with leading contemporary arts organisations to deliver large scale visual art projects, such as the Art Gallery of South Australia, Adelaide Festival Centre, Contemporary Art Centre of South Australia, and Australian Experimental Art Foundation. The Gallery has previously co-presented work as part of major state-wide festivals including Tarnanthi Festival of Contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art, Tasting Australia Festival, Festival Fringe, OzAsia Festival and the South Australian Living Artists (SALA) Festival.
