Established in 2006, Gallery Kaiela is a not-for-profit Aboriginal community gallery and studio located in Shepparton.
With a rich indigenous heritage, the Kaiela Dungala (Goulburn Murray) region is home to many talented artists â?? Gallery Kaiela represents about 50 of those artists and helps to share and support their work.
The gallery provides those artists with a place to display and sell their work in the community, but also has the responsibility to promote physical, spiritual and emotional wellbeing through art â?? for both the artists and the wider community.
Since moving to a larger premise at High St in Shepparton in 2013, Gallery Kaiela has been able to offer a space for artists to work, as well as providing professional development opportunities and workshops.
All artwork is produced locally by members of the Dungala Kaiela Aboriginal community and includes paintings, didgeridoos, woven baskets, woodwork, ceramics, clap sticks, boomerangs, jewellery, carved emu eggs and poker work.
Our Purpose
Gallery Kaiela strives to promote the South Eastern Australia Aboriginal art style, and provide education and connection through art â?? this includes in schools, and with the Aboriginal and wider community.
The Goulburn Valley and Greater Shepparton is home to a proud Aboriginal community with a strong identity and Gallery Kaiela is proud to provide another outlet to share and celebrate local Aboriginal heritage and culture, while promoting and developing the talented artists in our region.
