The Haven is a charitable not for profit organisation. The establishment of The Haven can be attributed to the vision of Mr E.V Roberts who was the owner of the local radio station, 2WG. Mr Roberts purchased 18.5 acres of land in Bourke Street, Wagga Wagga and in 1951 handed the land to the 2WG Women's Club who commenced fundraising for the development of The Haven's Self-Care Retirement Village.
The Women's Club played a vital role in the development of The Haven. Due to their fundraising efforts The Haven was able to expand and became one of the regions first providers of residential aged care. Eventually the Women's club disbanded and from 1965 the management of The Haven was transferred to a Board of Directors.
The Board has continued to raise funds and with the help of local service clubs and volunteers The Haven has grown to its present level. In total care and/or accommodation can be provided for 221 frail aged persons. 148 of these residents are cared for in residential aged care facilities, 61 reside in The Haven's Self-Care Retirement Village units and cottages and 16 can be cared for in the community.
The Haven now provides a variety of services and accommodation including:
- retirement village accommodation;
- high and low level residential aged care;
- dementia specific residential aged care;
- respite residential aged care; and
- several community care programs.
