A company that has ploughed millions into employment and technology in the Hunter region of Australia is now reaching out to China to bring the benefits of the resulting local skills and quality to one of the world’s biggest markets.
The T.W. Woods Group - which manufactures materials handling technology including transfer chutes and loading gates to many of Australia’s biggest mining and energy companies – celebrated its 50th birthday this year with the completion of a multi-million dollar redevelopment that will see it expand sales of its metal fabrication and coal and ore handling technology throughout Australia and internationally.
The company, which employs more than 40 people, prizes self-reliance and adaptability to tight deadlines and high quality requirements qualities which it put on display recently to a group of mining industry visitors from Shanghai who had heard about it through global mining media.
“Our big strength is the fact that we have great staff skills and are comprehensively equipped to handle complete projects on-site. We don’t have to send work out all over the place, so we can meet tight deadlines and maintain high quality control, qualities which are valued internationally” said Director Tom Woods, who, with his brother and fellow Director Glenn Woods,
has overseen a major expansion of its Tomago facility over the past three years.
“Business doesn’t come to you – you have to go out and fight for it,” said Mr Woods. “Companies in the Hunter need to have a fighting spirit to survive. We’ve seen the ups and downs of the industry and we’ve used the experience to emerge leaner, fitter and more competitive.
