Oatlands Retreat offers affordable self-contained modern and quaint accommodation in historic Oatlands in Tasmaniaâ??s Midlands. It is only one hourâ??s drive on the Heritage Highway from Hobart, one hour and 10 minutes from Launceston and one hour from the east coast. Discounts are offered to pensioners and standby rates are available if you are passing through the township.Oatlands Retreat has two bedrooms, a large bathroom, kitchen, lounge/dining area and a lovely stone courtyard garden. Eight people are accommodated with two doubles, bunks and sofa bed. Television with complimentary in-house videos and full breakfast provisions are provided so you can cook yourself bacon and eggs for a country breakfast. There is a Laundromat at the front and safe two car parking at the rear.Oatlands boasts the largest collection of colonial sandstone buildings in a village environment in Australia, many of which are now businesses such as antique, candy, bakery, craft, hotels, restaurants, cafes and second hand.Developed as a military base managing convicts between Hobart and Launceston, much of Oatlands was convict built. Historical information and do-it-yourself tours are available at the Tourist Information Centre. You can also visit Casaveen, famous for locally made jumpers.
