Sarah draws from her two passions: music teaching and counselling.
Sarah holds a Bachelor of Arts(Psychology), with an accredited major in psychology and two minors in music and counselling.
As a musician, Sarah has 7 years' experience in teaching music and 5 years' gigging experience. She also released her own progressive-rock album in 2014, titled "Looking Over My Shoulder" (www.sarahjean.bandcamp.com). On this album Sarah sang, composed, played piano and Hammond organ. She also co-produced the record. Sarah currently performs in Made In Purple, the Deep Purple Tribute band for which she plays Hammond organ (http://facebook.com/deepestpurpleaustralia). She has also undertaken music composition studies at Box Hill Institute Tafe.
As a counsellor, Sarah has 3 years' experience working in the mental health field for organisations such as Each Community Access Services, Mind Australia and Mentis Assist. During her time as a support worker Sarah facilitated therapeutic groups (including gardening, music, art and yoga), counselled her clients and helped them work on their mental health recovery goals. She also worked alongside psychiatrists, social workers and psychologists. In her work, Sarah found that music and art activities can be exceptionally helpful for people who have difficulty expressing and making sense of their thoughts and emotions.
