Where did the jewellery come from?
Two travellers, so pleased to meet each other, decided to go adventuring together, buying and selling things as they went. A baby was an addition that would be a great blessing because it made us realise it was time to settle down. Byron Bay was, and still is, the only place for us. Ixtlan Jewellery was opened at 7 Jonson Street, exclusively selling jewellery.
A chic modern feel was found, using all the natural stones and handmaking that we had loved so much in the early period. As more children appeared, Mama Bear gave up trading and focused on giving those little kids a solid grounding in art, design, ethics and a reverence for the natural world.
Byron Bay continues to offer great surf and spectacular landscapes along with music, culture and cosmopolitan lifestyle. Fellin, as mother to three talented people, returned in 2014 to re-inspire Ixtlan with new designs and is now joined by the younger generation. Ixtlan is pleased to showcase the emerging styles of the younger members, displaying such vive le chic, it truly is the dawn of a new generation of excellence. Their legacy is that they have grown up with the business from birth. They do not stand in their parents shadow but can already be felt to be bringing a sweetness in line and design that is the rare gift of youth.
Ixtlan is celebrating 22 years of trading in the present location: a place that has become a haven and a touchstone for many.
Opened just four days after the second child was born, Ixtlan now truly comes of age.
Ixtlan has become an icon for contemporary design and rare and beautiful jewellery. Fine quality stones with inspiring settings remain its hallmark.
As always, the genuine welcome from the people you find here is the ultimate measure of difference.
