Don has acquired a wealth of experience over more than 30 years in the landscape architecture profession.
Grounded in landscape architecture through the tutorship of the late Arne Fink, he has been a long-time member of the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in plant ecology, and is an International Associate of the American Society of Landscape Architects.
As a young professional he was appointed as Landscape Architect for the Westmead Hospital Project in Sydney where he spent 6 years guiding the landscape implementation for this landmark Australian fast-track? project, before setting up his own studio in 1984, half way between Brisbane and the Gold Coast, at Daisy Hill, where the practice continues to this day.
"I've seen lots of changes as this profession matures and takes on more and more challenges. Not once have I been tempted to wander - why would I, when each new project is as exciting as my very first? It never ceases to amaze me that you never stop learning, and part of the challenge is applying ever evolving lessons of the past to the often times very different problems of the present."
The practice offers expertise in a diverse range of projects: from large scale commercial to single family residential; from institutional to parkland planning; from manicured landscapes to the rehabilitation of degraded natural systems.
"My job is not to impose a Donald Irving Landscape to any particular site ? rather, my goal is to help shape my clients very specific ideas and aspirations to a landscape form which is going to work most effectively for them, and to an outcome we can all be proud of."
