The Alliance francaise de Melbourne is an Australian not-for-profit association dedicated to the promotion of French language and culture. Founded originally in France in 1883, the Melbourne Alliance was created in 1890 and is therefore the oldest in Australia and one of the earliest in the network of the Alliances francaises throughout the world. We are proud:
- To be the number one French language school in Victoria with over 3,000 students per year. Our students enjoy a variety of classes for all ages and for all levels including structured classes, specialised workshops and tailored courses for companies, individuals, private groups and schools. All classes are presented by qualified native speaking French teachers.
- To offer access to a comprehensive range of tests and diplomas recognised as official French language qualifications throughout Europe and other French speaking countries.
- Of our annual Berthe Mouchette Competition attracting over 13,000 students of French in Victoria, the largest of its kind in the world, open to students of French from Yr3 to Yr12.
- To be the sole French cultural centre in Victoria. In this role, we organise and promote major cultural events such as the Alliance francaise French Film Festival, concerts, performances, art exhibitions, and conferences as well as celebrating notable dates in the French calendar such as Fete de la musique, Beaujolais Nouveau and Bastille Day.
We encourage you to become a member of the Alliance francaise de Melbourne today and reap the benefits!
