Studying martial arts at BBMA is LIFE TRANSFORMING and we do this by empowering people of all ages to achieve their full potential. Not just in self defence, fitness and health but also in life skills such as self discipline, self control, courage, focus, goal setting and much more. Our Martial Arts programs are suitable for men, women and children of all ages and all levels of ability - from Beginner to Black Belt.
Style
There are many different styles of martial arts but ultimately the style is not the most important factor. The quality of the training and what the student learns and gains from the training is paramount; confidence, self discipline, goal direction, focus management, self defence, health and fitness, personal achievement, enjoyment, challenges, stress relief and weight loss.
Karate
The style of karate taught at BBMA is essentially Shotokan, one of the 4 original Japanese karate styles. However, our curriculum itself is eclectic. Our traditional shotokan basics and kata are supported by a self-defense and sparring curriculum based on principles ranging from confrontation avoidance to street-wise self-defense, jyu kumite and competition style sparring.
Kickboxing
Our Kickboxing program draws from two different traditional Kickboxing styles; Muay Thai & Japanese Kickboxing. Starting with the basic fundamentals of Muay Thai such as stance and footwork, basic punches, kicks, knees and elbows the program builds up the foundation of cardiovascular and strength needed for Kickboxing. No previous experience or fitness level is required for Kickboxing.
Kobudo
BBMA is an affiliate school with Matayoshi Kobudo, under Sensei Gaja in Okinawa, Japan. Kobudo is the practice of traditional Japanese weapons and explores their origins and uses in both a traditional and modern setting. Kobudo is an added benefit for all BBMA leadership students but is also a stand-alone program; you do not need to study Karate to study Kobudo.
