Adults Karate
Michael has made an effort to specialize in the teaching of adults who have no Martial Arts experience and are looking to better themselves through the Martial journey.Goju Ryu Oni Ken Karate-do is a Dojo mixing new & traditional methods of training Karate. The system is designed to get the best out of the student through hard training and patience. The adult class varies in ages from 16 to 52.Classes run for 2 hours, the first hour is dedicated to strength, fitness, power and conditioning training with a Karate base. The second hour is dedicated to self defence and Goju Ryu Karate e.g. basic techniques, kihon (moving basics), sebaki (evasion methods), sparing methods and Kata / bunkai. Kata is a pre-arranged form consisting of various movement of self defence. The bunkai is the study and practice of the Kata with a partner.
Kids Karate
The childrens classes at Goju Ryu Oni Ken Karate Dojo are structured in a way to enable the students to practice Goju Ryu Karate in a safe and comfortable environment. The classes are fun, yet instructors set rules and teach discipline in a manner that is understood by the children.
The ages vary from 5 to 13 and all students practice together usually being broken up into groups according to their current level. Beginners are grouped together and have an instructor to themselves, so they are watched and helped through their first steps and instructors are encouraged to help them build confidence. Parents are welcome to watch from an adjoining room.
The class runs for 45 minutes and consists of a fun game as a warm up, then moving onto Karate basics and finally Kata. The concept of Stranger Danger is also taught. The students are instructed to recognise danger and how to react in different situations. Goju Ryu Oni Ken Karate-do Dojo is a non sporting Dojo; this simply means there are no competitions or tournaments.
