Nis Wichtermann, traditionally a Pattern and Cabinetmaker, has discovered a new form of creativity within wood, sculpture, and music. In his Pulseart Studio, Nis has drawn on his skill and experience with wood, and his knowledge of the healing power of sound, to create the unique and beautiful Dreamharp - a twelve-stringed instrument reminiscent of the Lyre, but far simpler to make and easier to play.
The Dreamharp is based on the same principles as the Lyre, which is thought to represent the underlying numerical harmony of the universe and the concept that everything in the universe is in a state of vibration. By working with wood and strings, Nis explores a deeper understanding between body and spirit and how we can harmonise with the universe through sound vibration.
The Dreamharp is sculpted from one piece of wood and its curved shape fits into the body of the player. As the strings are strummed, its vibrations are felt through the body. It is also tuned to the pentatonic scale, meaning a five-note scale, which ensures that every note played on it harmonises. In this way, making music on the Dreamharp becomes a spontaneous process, arising straight from the heart.
Nisargam currently holds regular workshops leading people through this creative journey that the process of lyre making provides, and continues to work with his exploration of sound/vibration, healing and meditation.
Using a blend of traditional craftsmanship and new technologies, Nisargam is able to manufacture a lyre to your unique requirements. He specialises in Australian and recycled timbers.
From the selection of the timber to the number of strings, shape and size, Nisargam is happy to offer a no-cost, obligation free consultation to discuss your needs.
