Redkite supports children, young people & their families through the difficult journey of childhood cancer by providing essential emotional guidance, financial assistance & educational services.
For 25 years, Redkite has been working at the coalface & is there from the moment of diagnosis at the bedside, through the rigorous treatment regimes & beyond. Services provided by Redkite & not ?nice to haves?- they are essential ?has to haves?, helping keep families functioning both emotionally & financially.
Providing stability, hope & skills for life, our grassroots services provide the following:
*Providing professional social workers & music therapists in oncology wards
*Helping with essential household & living expenses
*Providing tutoring grants to help children catch up with missed studies
*Arranging family support & activity days
*Delivering innovative community programs to keep families supported & connected outside the hospital environment.
Our services understand the importance of hope, stability & dignity for the child or young person & their family. They are practical in nature & provided by caring professionals when needed. Redkite aims to offer equality of care & support to all children in Australia coping with cancer.
Redkite recognises the best way to help a child is to support the whole family & helps to ensure that families emerge from the cancer journey as a functioning family unit.
Today, the majority of children will be cured (up to 80%), however, it is a long & gruelling journey that can last several years, placing enormous pressure & distress on the whole family. Without Redkite, many families would be facing that stress in isolation, & it is by addressing these real needs through professional services that Redkite is respected by families, health professionals & the general community alike.
Redkite receives no government funding & relies entirely on the generosity of the community to continue its important work.
