Twenty10's mission is to provide and promote opportunities, choices and support to young people who are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender (GLBT). We work with young people, their families and communities to ensure that these young people have more opportunities to participate fully in, and influence, their society.
Twenty10 is a long-standing community based, non-profit and state-wide organisation which works to achieve its mission through:
- Individual support for GLBT youth, offering professional case management and counselling to address their needs, and acting as a conduit to other services;
- Group programs which enable GLBT youth to build relationships and connections in a safe and supportive environment;
- Community education and capacity building;
- Providing information and advice to GLBT young people, families, organisations and the community at large.
Services:
Twenty10 provides case management and counselling support to GLBT young people under 26 years who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. We also have a medium term accommodation service where young clients can live independently for up to 18 months.
Our group programs provide a safe and engaging way for GLBT young people to build their social networks and access support and information. Groups are run around Sydney depending on demand and local partnerships.
We run a drop-in centre in Newtown, open 6 days a week, which provides young people with access to laundry facilities, a shower, a kitchen stocked with meals, internet access, X-Box, DVDs and art supplies. Workers are available to address immediate concerns.
We also run training and small projects around New South Wales to help local communities to build their capacity to address the needs of GLBT young people, their families and friends, who may be living in those communities.
