Wollongong Women's Information Service (The Womens Centre) provides a range of services for women who may be experiencing domestic and family violence, isolation, marginalisation and a range of other issues. Some of the services that we provide are:
Information and referral on a range of issues including, but not limited to, domestic and family violence, housing and accommodation, support groups, health, Apprehended Violence Orders
Crisis support for women experiencing issues including domestic violence, either by phone or face to face contact
Groups for women including: Positive Relationships groups; The Women's Patch gardening group; The Young Women's Forum; The Illawarra Multicultural Womens Network and Performing Group; Dru Yoga group
The Illawarra Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service provides support for women seeking an Apprehended Domestic Violence Order (ADVO). Support is available on AVO list days at Wollongong, Port Kembla, Albion Park and Kiama Local Courts. Support at hearings is also provided where possible. Free legal representation at court for women seeking private ADVOs who are eligible for legal aid and are an existing client of the Court Advocacy Service
Advice is also available at court for women with Police initiated ADVOs on matters such as Family Law, Child Support, and Property, upon referral from the Court Advocacy Service
The Lake Illawarra Family Violence Support Service is located in the Lake Illawarra Local Area Command where they provide information, referral, support and advocacy for Domestic Violence matters. Ring 4234 5416 or 4234 5415 for information and support.
