Dr Shammas is a fellow of the Royal Australian College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. Bachelor of Medicine and surgery was obtained in 1996. An internship was completed at the Nepean Hospital and a specialist training was commenced in Sydney in 2007 and completed with a fellowship in 2013. Dr Shammas private obstetric patients are delivered at Sydney Southwest Private Hospital. Private Gynaecology patients are looked after at Sydney Southwest Liverpool, The George Centre Gregory Hills Private Hospital , Campbeltown private hospital & Public appointment at Canterbury Hospital . She also manages common Gynaecological problems which includes:
1- Heavy periods (Menorrhagia),
2- Pelvic organ prolapse,
3- Urinary Incontinence,
4- Pelvic masses including ovarian cyst,
5- Fibroids,
6- Menopausal symptoms.
7- Sexual dysfunction such as Vaginismus,
8- Pelvic pain, Abnormal pap smears (colposcopy).
Dr Shammas is trained in minimally invasive surgery and she is a certified colposcopic for Abnormal pap smears and most Gynaecological procedures are performed laparoscopically (key hole surgery) which results in a faster recovery, such as:
A- Ovarian cystectomy.
B- Hysterectomy and excision of endometriosis.
She also has a special interest in vaginal and vulva plastics, reconstructive & repair surgery for Obstetric care. Dr Shammas is an advocate of natural birth, and supports women with twin pregnancies, previous caesarean sections and uncomplicated breech presentation to have natural birth. Dr Shammas is well trained in performing a complex caesarean section for breech abnormal placentation such as placenta previa and also has good forceps skill and forceps delivery. In addition to this, Dr Shammas is Conjoint Senior Lecture in School of Medicine Western Sydney University.
