After being closed to the public for over a century, Point Nepean National Park is rapidly becoming one of Victoria’s most popular visitor destinations – and it’s only a 90-minute drive from Melbourne. Boasting spectacular views across Port Phillip Bay and Bass Strait, it’s a place of natural and historical significance. The park is home to native trees and grassland housing wildlife including the bandicoot and black wallaby. Popular features include a memorial to where Prime Minister Harold Holt went missing, the Quarantine Station, Fort Pearce, and Fort Nepean. Such is the delicate nature of the park you can only drive to a certain point, and from there you’re either on foot or cycling (bikes are available to hire). Alternatively, you can catch a ride on a transporter for a small fee, which takes you on a guided tour.
