Podiatry Group Melbourne is now offering laser for the treatment of onychomycosis. The ARC 1064-nm laser works by superheating the nailbed, resulting in fungal cell destruction and growth inhibition.
Patients with conrmed onychomycosis through cultures or periodic acid-Schiff (PAS) staining undergo laser treatment of all toenails. A subsequent treatment is performed post 8 weeks. Treatment is well tolerated by patients with little to no discomfort except for the occasional sensation of a â??pin prickâ??.
