Independent Publishers Tasmania (IPT) was
purchased by The Examiner Newspaper in
October 2000. Formerly operating under a
different name, IPT today carries two of the
original mastheads Tasmanian Farmer and
Tasmanian Parent with In Business Tasmania
and Strata both more recent additions to
our stable.
Independent Publishers also publishes
Enterprise Magazine, various Special
Publications and the two tourism
publications Tasmanian Travelways and
Explore Tasmania are also sold from our
Launceston office.
Our business operates as a division of The
Examiner Newspaper, which was founded
as a weekly in Launceston on March
12 ,1842, by a young Scotsman, James
Aikenhead. It is the second oldest provincial
newspaper still existing in Australia, after the
Geelong Advertiser (1840). The Examiner
Newspaper Pty Ltd is part of the Fairfax
Media group of newspapers.
As a member of Fairfax Media, we are part
of a much larger publishing group which
spans over Australia, New Zealand and
parts of the US.
