First settled in 1862, Mackay is known to be an incredibly vivacious city with a tropical climate, making it a lovely place to travel to or in live in. As a fun fact, Mackay is also known as the sugar capital of Australia, producing more than a third of the cane sugar in Australia. In the older city centre of Mackay lies the City Heart, which is thriving with many of the region?s professional firms, but also has undergone quite a transformation in recent years.
The City Heart has been changed completely by a community arts project, and contains over 580 pieces of art, most of it reflecting the beauty and majesty of nature in the region.
The art pieces include inspiration from the Great Barrier Reef, as well as from the rainforests of Pioneer Valley.
