A smart design this, with a central bar separating two cafes of distinct personality. Through the right door is a casual spot for an excellent coffee, perhaps with cake or biscotti, lounging around on the deep pink banquettes. For something more substantial there's slices of pizza and then a scoop of gelati.
The left is for more serious dining, immediately evident from the proper napiery and accoutrement and the well-versed table service. Start with oysters, salt and pepper squid with chilli dressing or fried vegetables. An antipasto plate delivers a combination of these and other entrees. Mains cover mostly familiar territory in pizzas and pastas, with an emphasis on grilled meat and seafood. The grilled field mushrooms with it are dense and meaty, and almost a meal in themselves.
Europa looks smart, feels smart, but can be let down by a lack of sophistication in the kitchen.
