Martini is a little bit of bar, cafe, bistro and proper, fine-dining restaurant and the sum of its parts appears undiminished by its many roles. There are baltic pine floors, some tables set in casual afternoon coffee mode, while for restaurant eating there are linen-clad tables spaced well. A small bar has stools to sit on for evening cocktails. This venue challenges tastes with dishes such as pigeon and lentil broth and a warmed artichoke and asparagus salad with rocket, baby spinach and grano cheese. There's genuine giving in the food here and the wine-list prices are encouraging. The pasta and a risotto offer vegetarians a choice and the pappardelle with slow-roasted duck-leg ragout shows patience and passion for rich flavours and big textures.
