Nicholas Tolputt is an experienced tutor in singing and piano having experience across several musical styles, from classical to contemporary. He has worked with students of all ages and abilities to help them discover the joy of music and unlock their talent for making it. As the first countertenor to receive the generous support of the Dame Nellie Melba Opera Trust, Nicholas regularly performs as soloist in concerts and recitals across Australia.
A graduate from the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, Nicholas has learnt from several of the world?s most accomplished operatic performers including Andreas Scholl, Yvonne Kenny, Cheryl Barker, Andrew Dalton and Peter Coleman-Wright. He has a firm knowledge of Italian, German and French for singing as well as a strong understanding of classical vocal technique ? something vital to the foundation of every singer.
His most recent engagements were for the 2015 Brisbane Baroque festival, where he performed solo recitals to critical acclaim. He has sung for the 2013 and 2014 Hobart Baroque festivals, where he appeared in solo recitals and understudied the role of Medoro in the final festival?s centrepiece opera, Orlando.
Nicholas has been fortunate enough to receive the prestigious Glover Music Trust Scholarship for his dedication and commitment to music in Australia. He has an infectious passion and love for all types of music and enjoys leading students to unlock their creative side.
