Mrs. Charles Gray aims primarily to make music fun. She has been a piano teacher for over 15 years. Her students learn a mixture of styles and methods, keeping piano lessons interesting and inspiring.
Located in Bundoora, Charles is a piano teacher, accompanist, and music theorist with over 15 years experience. She has studied jazz performance, classical technique, and musicology at tertiary level. Her love of music is broad, and she has performed as a jazz musician, as a classical accompanist, in folk bands, and with Balinese gamelan. She has collaborated on numerous short film soundtracks and has a passion for film music and cinema.
Central to Charles' teaching philosophy is that the fundamentals of classical technique, improvisation, musicianship, and composition are essential to the study of piano. Her students develop solid technical foundations with Bach and other traditional repertoire. All students also learn to read and improvise with jazz and popular music charts. Her students are encouraged to learn musicianship through the study of composition. Through this variety she believes all students can not only develop a love of music, but also discover the joy that a daily practice routine brings.
