Named after a mountain range in Africa, Ruwenzori (pronounced roo-wen-zor-ee) is the product of 25 years painstaking restoration and renovations by well-known TV presenter and avid rail enthusiast Scott McGregor.Scott and his wife Wendy created the luxurious railway-themed weekend hideaway set in the picturesque, dramatic hillside on the Great Dividing Range, with panoramic views in every direction. The retreat can accommodate up to 12 guests in three fully renovated antique railway carriages, featuring fully equipped dining and sleeping cars dating back to 1890, complete with Queen sized beds, marble bathrooms, original sleeping bunks for children and lounge areas.Other features of the retreat include under-floor heating, DVD and CD players, TV’s, dishwasher, microwave and fully-sized ovens, as well as wood fires, telescopes and even hairdryers!The retreat’s 100 year old carriages still have many of their original features: polished cedar panelling, pressed metal ceilings, brass and silver fittings, while outside there is an array of railway memorabilia and cottage style gardens and 25 hectares of bushland where adults can do nothing but relax and children can play and explore.
