Prof Abdi is an experienced Oncologist practising in medical oncology, clinical haematology and palliative care. He works both at John Flynn Private Hospital as well as being the Director of Cancer Services at The Tweed Hospital, Tweed Heads, Norther NSW. He is also the Clinical Lead and Professor in Cancer Care at Griffith University, Gold Coast. He is also conjoint Professor, Faculty of Health Sciences Southern Cross University.
He did his Medical Oncology and Haematology training in Melbourne and at The Cross Cancer Institute, Edmonton, Canada.
Prof Abdi's previous appointments include Staff Specialist at Cross Cancer Institute, Edmonton, Canada, Palliative Care physician at Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute, Melboune, Staff Specialist Royal Adelaide Hospital, Director of Medical Oncology & Palliative Care Lyell McEwin Hospital, Adeliade, ; Director of Medical Oncology & Palliative Care Bendigo Hospital, Bendigo and more recently ,the establishment of cancer centre at The Tweed Hospital, Tweed Heads.
Prof Abdi has a strong commitment of patient care, teaching and research in cancer. He is an internationally recognised Principal Investigator of numerous clinical trials. He is a major contributor to many international studies on the treatment of solid tumours and has access to a number of clinical studies available for treatment of major malignancies.
