Don Blundell started his career as an apprentice joiner/cabinet maker at the age 14.
After many years of working for an award winning company Don purchased the business. The company carried out jobs such as shop fitting and detailed joinery, as well as the manufacture of fine furnishings, including reception desks and board room fitouts for businesses in the Canberra/Queanbeyan area and interstate.
In addition to Don's many achievements in this industry he was delighted when asked to judge the work of apprentices at the Canberra Institute of Technology.
After 50 years of experience in the industry Don decided to sell his company, retiring in 2000. Don continued to make fine furniture for friends and family and in 2006 he made his first rocking horse for a grandson. Soon Don's rocking horses were noticed by others, including a local toy shop owner, who purchased a rocking horse and sold others through the shop.
Since then, Don has received requests for his rocking horses. He continues to build them using the same love and attention that was applied to that first rocking horse he made.
Don believes that his handcrafted rocking horses make ideal family heirlooms that can be enjoyed by generations to come.
Don enjoys building rocking horses and this is reflected in the quality and detail of his work. His handcrafted creations bring pure joy to children of all ages. The fine quality timber used and Don's attention to detail are what make these horses stand out from others.
