Keiren Brandt-Sawdy BMus Keiren first started playing the piano when he was 5 years old. Since then his love of music has seen him involved in a great range of musical activities. Throughout high school he played in the orchestra for school musical productions such as â??Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoatâ??and â??Footloose.â??In 2008 he was the musical director of Jannali High Schoolâ??s production of â??Little Shop of Horrors,â??conducting the performances from the piano. He has also frequently performed as an accompanist for HSC music exams. After completing his own HSC Keiren enrolled in a Bachelor of Music Studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Whilst at the Conservatorium he has performed both solo piano works and has sung in performances of Poulencâ??s â??Gloria,â??Bachâ??s â??Jesu, meine Freudeâ??and â??Singet dem Herrnâ??and Monteverdiâ??s â??Vespers of the Blessed Virginâ??with the Conservatorium Choirs. In 2012 he toured Europe with the Chamber Choir which included singing Evensong in Westminster Abbey and Mass in Notre Dame Cathedral. Our tutoring centres are located in Drummoyne and Balmain and we also offer classes in Annadale and Chatswood. Created by Allison Greenland, whose PhD dissertation focused on using technology as a motivation factor and reading comprehension skills in younger students, Leap into Literacy was developed to provide small classes for children with a focus on reading comprehension and creative writing. Using techniques that allow students to become creative in the learning process, sessions are unique and achieve maximum results. Classes are FUN and are NOT based on individual students completing worksheets on their own, but instead a more involved and hands-on approach during the group lessons with one-on-one support for the written work. This means that students are more motivated to learn and retain the information for life! Creative techniques and technology are used in small groups; parents have said they are so happy to see their children enjoy reading and writing for pleasure! Students are also able to complete writing assignments on their own outside of the classroom using techniques they learn in class. We cover a different age-relevant book each week with a reading and writing aspect involved. Each week is different, but topics we focus on for older students are: persuasive and descriptive writing, building your introductions and conclusions, character development, and organising/planning your story. Reading comprehension techniques are also tied into every lesson. For younger students, we focus on reading comprehension but also many of the early literacy techniques that centre around synthetic phonics and handwriting. Parents like to use the classes not only as a fun method to increase reading and writing skills, but as an extension to help expand on what is already in place for more advanced students. Read more
