Neighbourhood centres are based on concepts of building 'neighbourliness' and community spirit, of promoting and supporting people within our community. We encourage the development of initiatives that will respond to social needs, family growth and strength in the community.
We assist non-government organisations, groups and local government to provide services such as self-help groups, community workshops, and provide venue for meetings, workshops and training. Activities and program include initiatives that provide awareness about training and education, community literacy, programs for women and families. Youth initiatives and programs for children through partnership with other relevant organisations. The provision of low-cost venue makes it possible for other service providers to promote their service and reach out to the Maryborough community.
The community coffee shop at the centre also run by volunteers provide basic catering services for workshops, training and other functions. The coffee shop which is open from 10.00 am to 2.00 pm, Mondays through Fridays is a fund raising effort of the centre that supports centre base programs and events.
The neighbourhood centre also provides information, referral and in some cases advice on a range of community needs and related services. All of these services, community development programs and support to the most disadvantaged members of our community is made possible through the devotion and generosity of our volunteers.
Our service delivery as a community based not for profit organisation is preventative, developmental, flexible and accepting of the differing needs of members of our community with consideration of their indigenous, ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
