The Eagles Rest Vineyard is nestled high in valleys of the Brokenback Range in Pokolbin, Hunter Valley. The Eagles Rest Vineyard like many other Hunter Valley vineyards is most likely one of the earliest planted in Australia dating back to the 1800s. It was planted by the father of Audrey Wilkinson, Frederick. The original name was "Maluna"! The vision of the owner has given the opportunity for the vineyard to express its colours, aromas and flavours like never before. In the past, some vines and grapes were grown to be sold, meaning higher tonnage was the aim, compromising the quality of the grapes. When the vineyard was purchased in 2006 immediately the goal was to produce a higher quality fruit that involves pruning for low yield effectively lowering the crop quantity, removing excessive fruit growth along with other techniques. Eagles Rest Wines are now the by product of these high quality grapes. The vineyard blocks are unique in that some lay in their own small valley, have an outstanding diversity of soils along with fantastic moisture availability. The soils, aspect and hydraulic dynamics of this place truly set it apart from its surrounds. The fruit from the Eagles Rest vineyard has always been highly regarded amongst Pokolbins winemakers for its quality. Many great award winning and famous wines have the fruit from Eagles Rest Vineyard in their DNA and none more than our very own. The wines from Eagles Rest display finesse and elegance. They show a positive acid structure which gives the wines brightness and liveliness. The fruit characters are always well defined and distinctive. All wines are made with age ability in mind, and most importantly quality not quantity. Eagles Rest is one of the few wineries in the Hunter region with Olive Trees with thousands of trees of various varieties planted at our Echo Ridge Vineyard (cellar door location). Eagles Rest Olive Oil is cold pressed onsite from the best of these fruits.
