The Wool Factory is a unique Australian Disability Enterprise established in 1983 which specialised in ultrafine wool production for the international textiles market. What began as a marginal activity providing supported employment opportunities for people with disabilities, quickly developed into an organisation that was a major contributor to a prestigious niche market.
In 2004, The Wool Factory produced the best bale of wool ever put on the world open market. The 11.8 micron bale achieved a price of 300,000 cents per kg for the 93 kg bale. The organisation continued to produce ultrafine wool and in 2011 produced an 11.5 micron bale. However, recently the GFC, the all time low prices and other factors have contributed to the production of ultrafine wool being no longer viable.
As a Community-based project providing services to clients from a wide geographical area, The Wool Factory provides high quality employment opportunities to its 55 special needs clients in five commercial enterprises, including Hospitality, Retail, Timber Manufacturing & Packaging/Assembly.
In 2012, The Wool Factory helped us launch the manufacturing and distribution of our products. They supplied the employment solution and factory floor space needed to produce our skins. Along with the worthwhile cause of supporting employment for the disabled workforce.
